Nyhavn in Copenhagen, Acrylic on Canvas

1 Nov 2016

You probably heard that we went to Denmark for our summer holiday this year. I loved the colourful buildings in Copenhagen and wanted to paint a piece of work which reflected this. I wanted it to be a little abstract but as you can see, the painting I ended up with was more representational. Although I did omit a lot of the detail from my original photograph.

I've come to the conclusion that I don't use my sketchbook enough to experiment with different and new techniques. I'll definitely try to do this in the future.

All in all though, I'm really pleased with this painting. It wasn't quite going how I wanted it to at first, but once I'd added some more layers of detail, I was happier. I think it's captured the colours of the harbour buildings, and the repetition of windows. What do you think? It's always lovely to hear thoughts in the comments below.

This is acrylic on a 30x12 canvas.
